With streets paved and other infrastructure in place, construction on homes is the next stage of construction to begin at Echelon, Home of the Georgia Tech Club. Echelon will feature a Rees Jones signature golf course. The entire community consists of 230 estate homesites, each one acre or more in size. The entire community covers approximately 610 acres located in Atlantas northern quadrant, ideally situated in the "horse country" of Alpharetta in the heart of the GA-400 corridor, in Cherokee and Fulton counties.
"We are now at a stage of construction where prospective home owners can better appreciate what we will accomplish with this community," said Trip Shine, Melrose Company Vice President and General Manager of the project. "With Phase I roads complete, the golf course graded and shaped, and grassing to begin this Spring, the appeal of specific lots can be better appreciated. We have commitments for memberships to the club; 58 commitments for homesites; and we the partnership of some of the finest builders of custom homes in the Atlanta market. We could not have enjoyed a better reception for Echelon and The Georgia Tech Club, and we look forward to developing what will be one of the Southeast's finest club communities."
The Georgia Tech Club will consist of an 18-hole Rees Jones signature golf course, a clubhouse including a golf pro shop, dining area, club lounge, health club and locker rooms. There will also be a Tennis Club designed by former U.S. Open and Wimbledon champion, Stan Smith, and a Swim Center.
"The Rees Jones course will provide the Georgia Tech golf team with a first class training facility to test their skills, with a comprehensive practice area for their use, including covered and indoor hitting facility, practice bunkers, coach's office, and state-of-the-art training aids," said Joe Irwin, executive director of the Georgia Tech Alumni Association. "Georgia Tech golf team coach Bruce Heppler and his staff are contributing to the design of the practice facility."
"Having this quality of facility should help the Georgia Tech golf team to remain one of the best in the nation and attract talented golfers into the future, and we will have a home golf course suitable for regional and national NCAA tournaments. Everyone within the Georgia Tech community is excited by what the Melrose Company is accomplishing with the Georgia Tech Club," said Irwin.
The clubhouse is being designed by Georgia Tech alumnus Niles Bolton. Niles Bolton Associates has been responsible for some of the finest clubhouse designs not only in the Atlanta area but also across the country.
